John Blake (deafhope) > Pastor Fred Griffith, a pastor for the Deaf (whose parents are deaf) from California, met Pastor Blake (of the Gospel Outreach Deaf Dept.) in Germany, and they flew together to India to meet with deaf in January, 2007
John Blake (deafhope) > Pastor Griffith at our hotel room, meeting with one of the deaf Gospel Outreach workrs who wanted to discuss some items. He knew some American Sign Language.
John Blake (deafhope) > Pastor Griffith on a Sabbath afternoon presenting the topic of "Creation" to a small group of deaf while the power was off, and he had to just work with his computer running on its battery. Usually we used a video projector on a sheet on the wall.
John Blake (deafhope) > As far as we know, this is the first Seventh-day Adventist church in the world ever built just for deaf - at Thanjavur in South Inda. The first pastor, Sathiyamoorthy, is standing by the front step, and the present pastor, Manikaraj, has his hand on the wall by the door.
John Blake (deafhope) > Some of the workers for the deaf sponsored by Gospel Outreach in India. In this picture 4 are deaf themselves, and three are hearing. The older man in the white, Pastor Rao, is the area supervisor. As of June 2007, we are in the process of expanding from about 20 to about 30 workers - mostly sponsored by Gospel Outreach USA and Gospel Outreach Canada.
John Blake (deafhope) > Pastor Manikaraj, interpreting Dr. Rao's talk for the Deaf group on the Ministry of Jesus at Thanjavur in South India. There are three people working with the deaf in this area.
John Blake (deafhope) > A baptism of a deaf young lady at Vizianagaram. The baptistry is in the church yard. Pastor's Blake and Griffith were allowed to be present at the baptisms held on church property, but not those held in a public place.
John Blake (deafhope) > Our camera was allowed to go where we could not, and captured this deaf young ladies baptism by a local pastor. There were a total of 173 deaf people baptised between nine locations while we were there. (over 200 deaf baptised in India in the first half of 2007)
John Blake (deafhope) > Land was too expensive to build a church in Vizianagaram, so we bought a home and have renovated it as a church just for deaf in that area. This was at the dedication in January 2007
